Overview

I was tasked with designing 15+ origami styled iconography for our clients. My contributions for the icons I created, assisted the art direction for the additional origami-styled graphics. Team members used my icon assists for their wireframes and overlapping content. Our work was featured in the following; Thailand National Science and Technology Fair 2024, Sustainability Expo 2024 (#SX2024), and Thailand Space Week 2024.

Final Delivery

The QZSS banner was where I directed my efforts to shifting the brand identity into an origami-inspired style. My icon designs played a key role in establishing the foundation and art direction for our graphics. These icons became a blueprint for the team’s banner designs and were versatile enough to be repurposed across wireframes for overlapping content. This approach saved the team time by allowing them to use my designs as references or starting points rather than creating entirely new graphics from scratch.

Culture Study

Implementing the origami style for the icons involved extensive research and a deep dive into the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. I had to thoroughly study how various shapes and forms are created through intricate folds, analyzing the unique techniques that give origami its distinct structure. This understanding allowed me to design icons that authentically reflect origami's delicate and precise nature, capturing how these forms would appear in real life while maintaining a digital aesthetic.

Key Takaways

This project reinforced the importance of adaptability and deep research. By taking the directive of an origami approach and expanding on it with intention and creativity, I was able to create iconography that resonated with both the team and the clients. It was a valuable lesson in how a strong concept can unify and elevate a project.
